Phew. How to sum up this one.
Following serious eye problems which left him nearly blind, McAloon (Prefab Sprout lead man) took to listening to late-night radio, thereby ‘trawling the Megahertz’. This is the result.
Lush orchestration and spoken dialogue characterise the 22 minute opening track. Indeed, the majority here is instrumental with voices / radio recordings as accompaniment. There is much familar to Sprout fans in the arrangements but this is a major departure in style from what went before.
I continue to marvel at this man for his creativity and originality. This one is admittedly an acquired taste, but I find myself lapping it up.
