Musique 365: Day 297: Stars – Simply Red

One of those albums from the early 90’s which, due to its overexposure and mega-success (it was the best-selling album of both 1991 AND 1992), is hard to view objectively as we know it so well. It is undeniably catchy, right from the start (‘Something Got Me Started’) and goes from strength to strength through ‘Stars’ and ‘Thrill Me’ peaking with the wonderful ‘For Your Babies’. Undoubtedly Mr Hucknall’s finest hour.

Musique 365: Day 162: Life – Simply Red

Following on from the multi-million selling ‘Stars’ was always going to be a challenge for Mick Hucknall and the less well-known members of Simply Red. However, they gave a good account of themselves in the latter half of 1995 with ‘Life’.

‘Fairground’ grooved percussively and ‘Remembering The First Time’ was a good pop tune. Let’s slow things down though …
